On the 19th ultimo a Memorandum was communicated

to the Foreign Office by the French Embassy respect-

ing the question of Anglo-French co-operation in the

Hunkow-Canton Railway enterprise,

It was stated in that Memorandum that an agree-

ment had recently been arrived at between the British

and Chinese Corporation and a French financial group

on the following bases:

Forty-five per cent of the capital of the new

Company to be at the disposal of the British and Chin-

ese Corporation.

Forty-five per cent at the disposal of the French

group represented by the Banque de l'Indo-Chine;
